Fleetwood in the Year 2003
Approaching Fleetwood from Knott End-on-Sea, photograph taken from the Ferry Boat 'Harvester'.
Left -  the Pharos Lighthouse. Middle - the Ferry Slipway, the RNLI Lifeboat, the Offshore Survival Centre,
and the North Euston Hotel. Right - the Pier, the Lower Lighthouse and  the Nautical College Training Annex.
Extreme right: The long Pier can be seen extending out into the sea.
The Ferry Slipway can be seen to the left, the RNLI Lifeboat centre, the Offshore Survival Centre to the right.
The Ferry Slipway contrasts with the 'Sixties' as there are no visitors waiting to cross over to Knott End-on-Sea.

to ship over to Knott End-on-Sea.

In the 'Sixties' the 'Lunevale' carried a full payload of passengers
on every trip during the summer months. In fact, TWO Ferry Boats
operated at 15 minute intervals to cope with the demand.
Passengers had to line up along the Slipway to wait their turn.

This was the scene during the Bank Holiday Weekend on 2nd June 2003.

This is an old TRAWLER located in the centre of  the Fleetwood 'Free Port' Shopping
Outlet. In the late seventies, Deep Sea Fishing declined. The Union of Common Fisheries
Policy, written to conserve and to protect fish resources, forced many fishing vessels to
be laid off. The fishing industry reduced in size, and the main fish dock was closed.
The Dock land was converted into a Shopping Outlet and is called the 'Free Port'.
There is also a large Marina where small sailing craft can be moored.
